2020 been such a tough year in a multitude of ways, but it's also a great time to reflect, rest, and tune in with cozy fun things to do at home for the holidays. Although we can't see most of you in person for a while still, we are simmering on so many fun ideas and plans for the future of our circus community here in the Sierra foothills. We still have a schedule of online zoom classes like flexibility, yoga, modern dance, and circus strength to keep you moving and connected with us too :) But we also want to celebrate the larger circus world out there - from the safety and comfort of our own homes. So, we bring you; Cirque-History Fundays! Every few weeks we will be sharing some inspiring and educational videos about circus. We are so excited to have Kris Carrison join our team in the New Year 2021; once it is safe to re-open the studio he will be bringing his extensive circus and acrobatic background to some new acro programs for adults and kids, as well as co-leading the kids performance group with Lucy. Since we all can't meet him in person just yet, we are going to be featuring him in a new series of educational and inspirational videos about circus!!! Every few weeks we will be sharing historical and awe-inspiring videos with a bit of background and context from Kris.
Week 1: 'Quidam' and the amazing circus art form known as 'banquine'
Week 2: 'Managing High Risk Innovation In Acrobatics'
In this video Kris describes creating his act for the Cirque Du Soleil show 'LOVE' which was based on many of the Beatles songs. His extensive acrobatic and performance experience, as well as his enthusiasm for the creative process really makes this video an interesting watch. The development of any art form, including circus arts, involves pushing the envelope 'centimeter by centimeter' as he says -once one has attained a level of mastery, and has a container (ideally with coaches) in which to experiment. It's really cool to be able to hear about risk management from someone like Kris who's devoted so much time and training to his art-form- Enjoy!
